Jecheon's Confucian temple and school to teach local students in the Chosun Dynasty period

Hyanggyo is an educational institution which was established by the country because the government wanted to perform ancestral rites for wonderful Confucian scholars who were already dead and the government wanted to educate their local citizens. In Chosun dynasty, teachers taught their students by receiving lands, slaves, books from government, but after Gabogaehyuk(1894), they only performed ancestral rites and they did not teach their student.

In Goryeo dynasty, Gongyang King on the first year(1389) established the Jecheonhyanggyo, but originally this school was located at western Masan. But in Seonjo(King) on the 23rd year(1590), this was moved to this place, but due to Imjimweran(invasion by Japanese) the plase was collapsed. After this, in Soonjong Yunghui on the first year(1907), Daesungjeon and Myeongryundang were burned and collapsed. In 1922, Daesungjeon was restored. Remained buildings are Daesungjeon, Myeongryundang, Dongjae, Seojae and so on but moreover there is annex.

In Daesungjeon, people kept ancestral tablets like Gongja and other sages and performed ancestral rites. In Myeongryundang, teachers taught their students and in the front of Myeongryundang, there are Dongjae and Seojae which are students' rooms.
