Jaksung Mountain which is also called 'KKachisung Mountain’ is located at the boundary of Jecheon-city Geumsung-myeon and Danyang-gun Jeoksung-myeon. From the north side, Gachang Mountain (819.5m), Gab Mountain (776.7m), Homyeong Mountain(475.3m) and Madangjae Mountain(661.2m) are there. From the south side, Dong Mountain(896.2m) and Geumsu Mountain(1,015.8m) are there. Jaksung Mountain is the main mountain of Jecheon around Cheongpoong Lake to its west side. Hikers call this mountain 'Jaksung Mountain', and Jaksung Mountain is written in tomographic map and citizen call this mountain 'Ggachisung Mountain' because the Japanese use 'Jaksung Mountain', so the citizens want to change this name to a Korean style. The legend of Ggachisung is here. In old times, one king built the castle and lived here. One morning, this king instructed his courtiers to kill the Magpie. Then courtiers shot an arrow, but this Magpie was not a magpie. This was the king of Japan.

In Jaksung Mountain, Muamsa which is the old temple, Sobudo legend and Bongmyeong rock of entrance of Sungnae-li, are there. Also, as Choongcheongbook-do climber's mecca, Bebawi (rock) is famous because Heo Yeong Ho the explorer has visited here.

Saemokjae section (Muamsa(temple) ∼ Peak ∼ Muamsa(temple)) Total time for hiking: 2 hours 20 minutes. Time for sections: Muamsa - (50 minutes) - Saemokjae - (40 minutes) - Peak of Ggachi mountain - (50 minutes) - Muamsa

If you want to go up to Jaksung Mountain, you should start at Sungnae-li Sungnae convenience store. If you go up to the long valley to the east side from Sungnae convenient store through the paved road, you can find Uamjeiljae and if you go up 500m further, you can find SBS set.

You can start at Zelkova which is located at the center of the set, or you can go up to the peak through Muamsa(temple). If you go up to Muamsa, you should pass 300m and then pass the Baby rock, Mist rock to reach Muamsa.

There is a parking lot and you can park your car in this parking lot. Muamsa is located at the eastern valley of Sungnae-li and this is the turn-off to Dong Mountain and Jaksung Mountian. Dong Mountain is famous for Namgeunseok(rock shaped like man’s genital) and if you want to go to Dong Mountain, you should start at Muamsa parking lot and then cross the valley to go up to Seoreung. Slope is steep and strange and fantastic rocks are there so you should be careful.

Muamsa(temple) is established on Hapsumeori of valley which is shaped 'Y'. If you see the northwest side, you can see the rock like a black skirt and this is Baebawi (rock). Stonework in front of Geukrakbojeon was collapsed because of heavy rain.

You can follow the right valley, and then you can go up to Saemokjae. If you go up 100m, you can reach Muamsaji Budo which is dagoba with granite. Sobudo stands with dagoba. One masterless cow worked hard and then this cow died and someone cremated this cow. In body of the cow, cremated remains were found and these were enshrined.

If you go up through Sobudogol, you can find the valley and the water is so pure and clean. This valley has plenty of water. The ways are connected to the left side of the valley.

If you follow the vines and gravelly field, you can reach Saemokjae. This is the meeting point of connected Dong Mountain and Jaksung Mountian. In Jae, a sign which means Muamsa and Jeoksung-myeon stands. This is covered with woods and it is desolate.

Saemokjae is a large road for peddlers who took a ship from Hanyang passing to Danyang. Shape of this valley is similar to neck of a bird and thus this valley is called 'Sae(Bird)mokjae'.

If you go to the top of this mountain, you should go up through the north side of the ridge. First, the ridge is gentle but later this becomes stee, and then this ridge turns left towards the other ridge and then passes Amreung. After this, if you go to the top of this mountain, you can find the ridge which is located at the northwest.

At Saemokjae, you can reach the top of this mountain in 40 minutes. Sight is fantastic~! You can see far north of Jecheon-city and Danyang-gun Jeoksung-myeon. Danyang side was collapsed because of quarry. Ggachi Mountain(848m) was written in sign by Geumsung-myeon Regional Development Association.

If you go through this ridge and turn to the southwest and go straight for 3 minutes, you can find 'Chimabawi(rock) in 0.4 km, Saemokjae in 0.8 km' on the direction board. If you go straight for 2 minutes, you can find the sign of the peak. Jaksung Mountain(771m) was written in sign and 845.5 peaks was written in topographic map.

2002. 12. 28, this was moved here by a helicopter. Sungnae-li(10.5km), Pojeon-li(7.3km) was written also. Samgakjeom and stone tower are in the peak of this mountain. This place is covered with trees and you cannot see well.

If you go down through the ridge from 771 peaks, you can find an observatory and you can see a beautiful view of Chungju. You can look down Sobudogol through the gap between two pine trees and you can find Cheongpoong Lake at the far west side.

The ridge way is continuously downhill and then you can reach the turn-off around Sobbul(horn of cow) rock. If you go through Muamsa road at the right side, you can see a steep downhill road. The trail is not dangerous. Especially if you go down through a steep slope, you can reach the valley which is located at 600m of upper Muamsa. If you go down through a gentle valley way, you can reach behind the Muamsa(temple) which is located deep in the mountain. Trail is connected to Muamsa which was established by Uisangdaesa(Monk) back in Silla Munmu king era.

Hiking of Jaksung Mountain starts at Muamsa. From Sungnae-li, if you go through the reservoir, SBS set, baby rock, mist rock, you can reach the front of Muamsa(temple). Entrance of Muamsa is the turnoff of Dong Mountain and Jaksung Mountain. From Muamsa to Saemokjae is a continuous gentle road. Amreung stands from Saemokjae to the peak of the mountain but it is not steep and rough.

Peak of Jaksung Mountain has two signs. These are Ggachi Mountain(848m) and Jaksung Mountain(771m)(it takes 5 minutes). Course from Jaksung Mountain to Muamsa is steep so you should be careful.

Time for sections: Sungnae bus stop - SBS set (Faucet which is located at left side of left building under zelkova is starting point) - Seoreung - 771 peaks (Peak of Jaksung mountain) - Three-way intersection - Jaksung mountain (Peak of Ggachi mountain) - Saemokjae - Muamsa - Zelkova - Muam reservoir - Sungnae bus stop

Hiking of Jaksung Mountain starts at Zelkova which is located at the center of SBS drama set. Or you can go up through Muamsa. You can go up through Muamsa which is the general course. Because of this, if you start from Zelkova, you can enjoy a long hiking.

If you enter the left side in front of Zelkova at the studio of SBS and then enter the next to the sign 'Faucet', you can find the trail with flowing water. If you go up to Amreung section through the ridge from here, you can reach another main ridge. The way is gentle and you can go up easily. If you go up for 1 hour, you can find the ridge way which meets Muamsa(temple) and you can reach 771 peaks.

In 771 peaks, sign which means peak of Jaksung Mountain stands and this place is not good for viewing. If you pass this place and then go straight for 10 minutes, you can reach the peak 848 meter's tall. In this place, you can find the sign which show 'Ggachi Mountain (Jaksung Mountain)'. After this, you can descend through Saemokjae.

Time for sections: Sungnae bus stop (Sungnae convenience store) - SBS studio - Muamsa(temple) - Jaksung Mountain - Saemokjae - Peak of Dong Mountain - Three-way intersection - Namgeum rock - Muamsa(temple) - Sungnae bus stop

Jaksung Mountain and Dong Mountain meet together including Muamgol. If you want to go up to the peak through this two mountains, you should go up to Jaksung Mountain first.

If you go up to the peak following the ridge at Muamsa and then go down to Saemokjae which is the turnoff of Jaksung Mountain and Dong Mountain, you can find Dong Mountain easily. If you go up to the peak and then go down through the west ridge and at the turn-off of Namgeun rock go down to Muamsa, you can come back to the starting point.
